ZEROES

Deb Biancotti Scott Westerfeld Margo Lanagan

Simon Pulse will publish a new trilogy by Scott Westerfeld, the New York Times bestselling author of Afterworlds and the internationally bestselling Uglies series, and award-winning co-authors Margo Lanagan and Deborah Biancotti.
Who are the Zeroes? There’s Ethan, aka Scam, who’s got a voice inside him that’ll say anything you want to hear, whether it’s true or not. There’s Chizara, aka Crash, who can bring technology to its knees; Riley, aka Flicker, who can see through anyone’s eyes but her own; Thibault, aka Anonymous, who’s out of sight, out of mind; Nataniel, aka Bellwether, who can focus any crowd's energy on a single goal; and Kelsie, who can amp up or damp down a mob’s emotions. They were all born in the year 2000, and live in Cambria, California. Their abilities make them anything but heroes—until a high stakes crisis changes everything.

Scott Westerfeld is the author of the Leviathan series, the first book of which was the winner of the 2010 Locus Award for Best Young Adult Fiction. His other novels include the New York Times bestseller Afterworlds, the internationally bestselling Uglies series, The Last Days, Peeps, So Yesterday, and the Midnighters trilogy.

Margo Lanagan has been publishing stories for children, young adults and adult readers for 25 years. Her work has won numerous awards, including four World Fantasy Awards. Two of her books have been Michael L. Printz Honor books and she has been shortlisted for the Hugo and Nebula awards and for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize in the young adult division.

Deborah Biancotti has written two short story collections, Bad Power and A Book of Endings. She's been nominated for the Shirley Jackson Award and the William L. Crawford Award for Best First Fantasy Book. "We've spent the last two years coming up with these characters, crafting what we hope is a totally new take on superpowers," explains Westerfeld. "And we're excited to finally unleash Zeroes on the world."

With action, romance, and thorny ethical questions, it’s a book with a little something for everyone.

For fans of superhero fiction looking for a character-driven tale and those who enjoy works by the three capable authors.

Fans of superhero teams will appreciate with this group of teens who are each memorable as individuals but who are clearly meant to work together, as their abilities are enhanced, tempered, and understood only by others who share this particular experience of being different.

It's an absolute romp, poised between the emo-stuff of adolescence and a fantastic, rigorous extrapolation of how all these novel, fascinating powers work together. Better still: it's first in a series.

In this series opener by three acclaimed authors, intriguing protagonists and cinematic powers will surely please adventure fans...

ZEROES is expansive and evocative, especially when it takes time to describe what it feels like to use or be used by a power.

Cinematic, non-stop action...this collaboration will fly off the shelves.
