How to Overcome Shame and Heal Our Souls
For fans of The Gifts of Imperfection by Brené Brown and Shameless by Nadia Bolz Weber comes a call to action to find our purpose in life by embracing all the lights and shadows that make us who we are.
In this book, Stan Mitchell, senior pastor emeritus of Grace Pointe Church in Franklin, TN, and LGBTQ advocate, addresses issues of shame, guilt, and authenticity in the church, society, and our personal livesespecially those in the LGBTQ community. He challenges the barrage of religious and media messages that say we are never enough, and explores ways to help those dealing with abuse leveled at them by narrow-minded Christian thinking. He also explores the byproduct of shame: estrangementa psychological, "felt" sense of separation from God, others and even from one's self. Mitchell argues that this separation is completely unfounded, caused in part by numerous misinterpretations of the Bible. Through practical applications and spiritual insights, Mitchell guides readers to a place of acceptance and spiritual empowerment.
Stan Mitchell, an Arkansas native and fifth-generation classical Pentecostal, has traveled extensively for over thirty years preaching and teaching, including in a lead position at the highly respected Christ Church in Nashville, Tennessee. Mitchell currently serves as senior pastor emeritus of GracePointe Church in Franklin, Tennessee. This progressive, evangelical, and interdenominational community has been on an expansive and deeply sacred journey in the last few years, bringing their initiatives to the forefront of many modern-day issues surrounding the Christian church, namely their recent movement into full inclusion of the LGBTQ community.
