First published in 1986 with a new anniversary edition published in 2006, Father Thomas Keating's Open Mind, Open Heart has been a constant religious bestseller, with sales of over half a million copies worldwide. Keating founded a worldwide movement called Contemplative Outreach which taught a kind of prayer that focused on the need to move into silence – on centering prayer to move beyond the ego to the true self. Now in his 92nd year, he has written in conjunction with the journalist and television presenter Lucette Verboven what will be his final book, World Without End. In it he looks back on his life in terms of his spiritual development. Drawing on three great influences: St John of the Cross, St Teresa of Avila and Thomas Merton, he writes on the nature of true happiness and the nature and purpose of death. His frame of reference
ranges from Kafka and Dostoevsky to Wittgenstein, but always points to the incredible peace which can pervade your whole life and which surpasses all understanding.

Keating's monastery is high up in the Colorado mountains, some 15 miles from Aspen. As you make your way to the monastery you are aware of moving into another world – a world of tranquility and self-assurance. Such a goal is pursued by people even with little or no religious belief – witness the huge commercial success of the film Into Great Silence about the inner life of a monastery immersed in silence.

Father Thomas Keating is known throughout the world as an exponent, teacher, and writer on contemplative prayer. A Cistercian (Trappist) monk of St Benedict's Monastery, Snowmass, Colorado, he is a founder of the Centering Prayer Movement and of Contemplative Outreach. He is the author of numerous books, particularly of the trilogy Open Mind, Open Heart; Invitation to Love; and The Mystery of Christ. Among his most recent books is The Daily Reader for Contemplative Living, compiled by S Stephanie Iachetta.

Lucette Verboven is a Flemish writer and film producer. She holds a Master's degree in English Literature from the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium. She has produced a number of major television series for Flemish/Dutch television and is the author of a bestselling book, Pelgrim in het Leven.
