After catching her boyfriend in the arms of a cheap blonde, Sydney Walsh escapes her glossy New York City life for the off-the-grid seclusion of her mother's apartment in quaint Pine Ridge. Her plan to hide away in the mountains is complicated by her discovery that her mother's bookstore is on the brink of bankruptcy. After a childhood short on cash, Sydney is horrified to realize all the work she's put into avoiding financial instability has meant nothing.

Sam is the dreamy town mechanic with a bleeding heart. When Sydney crashes into Sam's rusty pickup truck after an evening of trading barbs and football talk at the local bar, she finds yet another reason to stick around Pine Ridge. Technically, he's totally off-limits - or so everyone in Pine Ridge says. Technically, he doesn't have a girlfriend. Technically, Liv is in his past. Technically, he has no children. He's made promises that anchor him to the past, and without his help, a family could be irreparably split up.
