WIFE ON THE RUN

Fiona Higgins

A brilliant new novel with heart from the best-selling author of The Mothers’ Group.
When her teenage daughter Caitlin is caught up in a cybersex scandal at her school and becomes prey to the worst kind of bullying, Paula thinks things are about as bad as they can get. But then she reads a private – and very explicit – message on her husband’s mobile, and knows that there is much worse to come. Paula makes a radical decision: to run away. But not from her family – with them. Leaving her cheating husband Hamish behind, she packs up her two teenagers, Caitlin and Lachlan, and leaves Melbourne for an extended family holiday with her recently widowed father Sid and the old caravan he’s parked in their back yard. Paula’s only aim is to get to the other side of the country before Christmas, but other than that, she hopes that a leisurely road trip and time away from the city and the demands of hectic modern life can reunite her family and teach them all what really matters. Meanwhile Hamish has an accident and is stuck at home with a broken leg to think about what he’s just lost. Over time, he realises what a selfish fool he’s been, and resolves to track down his family, wherever they are, and try to win back his wife. With the help of Lachie, Hamish eventually catches up with his family in a caravan park on the WA coast. But who is the hot, dark and handsome young man travelling with them? And why does he seem to have every single one of them in the palm of his hand? Especially Paula? Nothing is as it seems in this charming and gripping family drama – a surprising and satisfying journey into the heart of a family and what makes it tick. Fiona Higgins lives in Sydney and is a mother to three children. She lived in Indonesia for a year in 1997 after completing her university studies and became an Indonesian translator, before moving to rural Australia and getting married in 2005. She has been involved in the non-profit sector for 15 years, and currently serves on a number of boards including the Caledonia Foundation and the Royal Agricultural Society Foundation of NSW. Her first novel The Mothers’ Group was sold to France, Spain, the Netherlands and Germany.
