WHY I WENT BACK

It is very early on a winter morning and fourteen year-old Aidan Hale is going out to work. His secret job is delivering the mail that his postman father has been bringing home and hiding in the garden shed. Aidan's been doing this for three weeks, ever since his mother was sectioned and his father began hitting the self-destruct button.

But Aidan can only keep up with the ever-growing mountain of post by using his bike, and as he's about to begin his round, a gang steals it. Aidan follows them to a maze of derelict buildings where he stumbles across a ghostly old man chained to a pallet.

With Aiden’s family falling apart and a shed bursting with stolen post, only Daniel, a boy fascinated by history whom Aidan used to bully at school, and an old man who seems to have walked the earth for hundreds of years, can help Aiden pull his family back together. ?

James Clammer grew up in East Anglia and studied History at the University of Sussex. He has travelled in many parts of the world and has worked in the forestry, construction and environmental sectors. He lives in Lewes with his wife and two young children.
