Philip Bunting Idan Ben-Barak

An entertaining yet scientifically accurate exploration of the origin of life on Earth from the award-winning author of Do Not Lick This Book Idan Ben-Barak, and the bestselling illustrator of Who Am I?, Philip Bunting.
What is life? How did it start? Long, long ago, no one knows exactly where or when, a tiny bubble formed that was a Little Bit Different. It was the first living cell. Everyone's ancestor. And so the story of life begins . In this visually stunning and brilliantly devised picture book, Idan Ben-Barak and Philip Bunting lead us through the origin of life on our planet, and how an odd little bubble gave rise to the incredible web of life on Earth. Idan Ben-Barak holds a BSc in medical science, an MSc in microbiology, and a PhD in the history and philosophy of science. His first book, Small Wonders: How Microbes Rule Our World has been published around the world and won the 2010 American Association for the Advancement of Science/Subaru SB&F (Science Books and Films) Prize for Excellence in Science Books, Young Adult category. An excerpt from his book, Why Aren't We Dead Yet? The Survivor's Guide to the Immune System, was runner-up for the 2015 Bragg UNSW Press Prize for Science Writing. Do Not Lick This Book, which Idan created with Julian Frost, was an international hit, sold into 20 languages, and won the CBCA Eve Pownall Award. Idan lives in Melbourne with his wife and two children. www.idanbb.com Philip Bunting is an author and illustrator, with a soft spot for creating picture books for sleep-deprived, time-poor, raisin-encrusted parents (and their children). He believes that the more fun the child has during their early reading experiences, the more likely they will be to return to books, improve their emergent literacy skills, and later find joy in reading and learning. Philip's books have been translated into multiple languages, and published in over 25 countries around the world. Since his first book was published in 2017, Philip has received multiple accolades, including Honours from the Children's Book Council of Australia, and making the list for the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2018. www.philipbunting.com

elegantly explains how life began... Matter-of-fact, conversational language is paired with bright, colourful illustrations to share what scientists know about early Earth and what they are still trying to figure out. It then explains beautifully how elements joined to form molecules and then, over a very long time, to become life as we know it today. There's a huge, fabulous "taa-daa!" fold-out page at the end, showing off the amazing creatures on Earth and how we are all linked. And that's a lovely message too.

an entertaining and scientific exploration of the origins of life on Earth. Idan is an expert in this area but, along with the wonderful illustrations by Philip Bunting, the text is simple and so easy to understand. Suitable to share with the family or as a discussion starter with older kids.
