Now more than ever, parents want to teach their daughters that they are powerful, that they are smart, that they can be whatever they want to be when they grow up. However, this task seems daunting when every other headline is about harassment in the workplace. In this tumultuous time, where do we turn for guidance on raising young girls into powerful career women?

VENTURE GIRLS: Raising Girls to Be Tomorrow's Leaders by Cristal Glangchai, PhD, is a book for fathers, mothers, teachers and mentors who are dedicated to teaching girls that they can succeed in traditionally male-dominated industries. Women engineers and scientists are outnumbered by men 5 to 1, and women fill just 20% of the technical jobs at top companies like Google, Twitter, and Facebook. Dr. Glangchai has had great success coaching and mentoring girls from preschool through high school in topics that have traditionally been "for boys only." In this book, Glangchai shares her advice for mentoring future female scientists and techies. She shares her experiences working with young girls through her nonprofit VentureLab; from a group of 5-year-olds who invent Tasty-Doh, an edible modeling clay, to a young girl who learns the math to create a line of products using a 3D printer.

Dr. Cristal Glangchai is the founder and CEO of VentureLab, a nonprofit that engages young girls in entrepreneurship, science and technology. Her work there has been featured on NBC's The Today Show, on NPR's The Takeaway and in the Wall Street Journal, Mashable, Medium, Silicon Hills News, the Rivard Report, the San Antonio Express-News, and other publications. She is currently the Director of the Texas Entrepreneurial Exchange at the University of Texas at Austin, previously she served as the Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at Trinity University. She starred in the AOL Jeep Documercial, "Side Streets," which highlighted VentureLab, and was also a selected speaker at TEDx San Antonio, as well as SXSWInteractive and SXSWEdu. VentureLab recently expanded to a global reach by providing teacher training in Central America through the TeachHer initiative, a partnership with UNESCO, the US State Dept., and the Institute for International Education.
