G.I.BRIDE

Eileen Ramsay

Eileen Ramsay has signed a ten book contract with Bonnier Publishing. At the moment she is writing the first book of a four book series based on the G.I. Brides of WW11.
G.I.BRIDE. April Harvey is a trainee nurse at St Thomas's Hospital and she loves her work. Her plans are ruined when her home is destroyed and her father, her only relative, is killed in the bombing. Her employers find April a nursing position at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro and, since her late mother was from Cornwall, she is delighted. Another nurse, Eunice, befriends her immediately and they are joined by another nurse, Bess, who hints at unfortunate experiences. News breaks that American servicemen are being stationed in Cornwall and many of the nurses are excited. One day, when visiting the churchyard, April finds a young coloured American soldier who has stumbled over a broken tombstone and injured himself. His friends arrive and take care of him. They are, however, grateful to April and they become friends. Enemy planes are still bombing Britain and one day the hospital itself is bombed. April is rescued by a very handsome senior American soldier who brings her flowers to thank her for going to the G.I's aid. Bess is furious about this as she says that she has been dating the officer. April, who is amazed by her own interest in Major Dunbar, immediately withdraws, and focuses on her work although Eunice, who is engaged to a law student, now in the army, assures her that Bess is a fantasist. Will all end happily; will this ghastly war ever end?

EILEEN RAMSAY was born in Scotland and educated there and in the U.S and Mexico. She went through college babysitting for G.I. families stationed near Edinburgh and visited several while touring the U.S after graduation. Eileen, who is Chairman of the Romantic Novelists Association, lives in Angus with her husband whom she met while she was working on the archives of a Presidential campaign.
