‘Until the Devil Do us Part’

25 Years of European Intercultural Communication

Since 1994, for a quarter century, the Book Prize for European Intercultural Communication is awarded at Leipzig. The prize honours individuals who have rendered particular services to mutual understanding on the European level, in particular between Western, Middle, and Eastern Europe.

Europe has undergone significant changes in the last twenty-five years, and so has the ability to understand each other – and not always in a good way. Thirteen of the prize winners look back and reflect on how things have changed. The essays in this important collection show that Europe faces a historical stress test – and that the ideals of the Prize are more important than ever.

With contributions by Juri Andruchowytsch, Mircea Cărtărescu, György Dalos, Slavenka Drakulić, Dževad Karahasan, Ian Kershaw, Gerd Koenen, Geert Mak, Claudio Magris, Martin Pollack, Ilma Rakusa, Michail Ryklin and Heinrich August Winkler
