UN JUIF EN CAVALE
After Vancouver and Paris, Simon Sagalovitsch, the impossible Jew takes his perennial baggage of atavistic melancholy, single malt whisky and tranquilizers to Tel Aviv's languid beaches, gradually succumbs to the improbable pleasures of Israeli life in Jaffa and takes charge of the fortunes of a minor local football team. Fixing his own brand of self-fiction the way one would invent a new cocktail drink, Sagalovitsch (Laurent) takes malicious delight in reconciling us to this lovable rogue with his hot-headed obsessions, making us laugh all over again at Simon's visceral inability to fit in to the world perhaps only to make us cry for him all the more readily. Deadly funny. Born in 1967, Laurent Sagalovitsch has had all his novels to date published by Actes Sud: Dade City (1996) and La Canne de Virginia (1998). A Jew on the Run ends his trilogy which began with Loin de quoi? (2005) and La Métaphysique du hors-jeu (2011).
