UN AMORE A AUSCHWITZ
Edek e Mala: Una Storia Vera
Journalist Francesca Paci has reconstructed this forgotten love story. Based on her research at the Auschwitz State Museum and eye-witness accounts of survivors.
Edek and Mala: a young Polish political prisoner and a beautiful and lively Jewish girl fall in love at the Auschwitz concentration camp. Mala Zimetbaum is fascinating, charismatic and cultured - she speaks numerous languages and has been picked by the SS as an interpreter. She is also very generous at heart, going out of her way to help her inmates. Edward Galinski -Edek- is also an extraordinary man. Among the very first to be deported to Auschwitz, barely two months after its opening, Edek has seen the murdering machine grow and expand. He won't give up.
In 1944, with defeat looming large ofer the Third Reich, murder in the death camps continues. On June 24, Mala and Edek escape. They bribe a Nazi officer into selling his uniform. But their dream of freedom is soon over as they are caught at the Polish frontier. They face their destiny together with courage.
Francesa Paci, born in Rome 1971, was a correspondent for La Stampa in Jerusalem and London. She has won many awards and published numerous books.
