TROIKA

Adam Pelzman

A sensuous, original novel about an unconventional relationship among three very different people.
Perla is Cuban-American. She lives with her mom in a rundown apartment in Miami’s Little Havana. And while her mother thinks she works as a waitress, she doesn’t serve food or drinks—instead she serves up lap-dances. Perla is a stripper in a middle-tier strip joint in Ft. Lauderdale. This isn’t the life her parents had in mind for her—in fact this isn’t the life Perla had in mind for herself either.
Julian is Russian. His father was a legendary hunter, known for his bravery, and perhaps killed because of it as well. When Julian is forced into an orphanage, he discovers that he might have more in common with his father than he originally thought. Taken under the wing by a gruff Siberian businessman, Julian makes his way to America… and years later into the club where Perla is dancing. One day an associate of Julian’s comes into the bar, hands Perla an envelope filled with cash and a plane ticket, and tells her that Julian’s wife would like her to come to New York City to meet her. And to everyone’s surprise, Perla goes.
Narrated with raw sensuousness and intelligence, TROIKA is an utterly compelling novel.

Adam Pelzman graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in Russian Language and Literature. Among other things, he has been a private investigator, a software entrepreneur and a corporate lawyer. He lives in New York City with his son. TROIKA is his first novel.

I. Love. This. Book. It's fucking fantastic. Poignant, painful, impeccably realized, and ultimately joyful. I am so grateful to Adam Pelzman for creating this gem of a world.

What a great gallop through the landscape of the human heart, what a brilliant, astonishing modern love story, what a beautiful pair of heroines, what an amazing journey from the plantains of Little Havana and a Ft. Lauderdale strip club to Fifth Avenue and Easthampton, what a ride to a complex and satisfying redemption, what a glorious testimony to the way damage can become a lovely destiny, what a book!

I LOVED it! It was literally ‘unputdownable’ and also very unlike anything I’ve ever read.

An electrifying read. Pelzman plunges us deep into the lives of his characters, makes us feel their joys and sorrows on a visceral level, and beautifully renders the mysteries of love.

Sometimes you come upon a novel that is so intense and personal, and has the potential to bond you to the characters so much, that you find your fingers gliding through the pages feeling each and every moment as your own. Read more...
