When Anjali’s boyfriend cheats on her with a burlesque dancer, the 25 year old Bristol florist doesn’t mean to respond with an architect, a stag or a saxophonist. Neither does she mean to help a sailor in a quarter-to-mid-life crisis or fall for a sexy but earnest Buddhist. She absolutely refuses to meet the psychiatrist her impossible Sri Lankan mother tries to set her up with and continues looking for love in the wrong places. It is only on holiday with her mum and sister, who suffers with schizophrenia, that Anjali starts to build bridges with her own family. She finally understands that her mother has never recovered from the death of her husband years earlier and only wants to protect her two daughters. Anjali starts to realise that it’s not all about finding Mr Right but about finding out what’s right for her…

This laugh-out-loud funny, moving novel is about love, loss, family, cultural divides and the voices we all hear inside our heads. I just love this novel and really hope that you do too.

Tanya Atapattu is a writer and a doctor specialising in psychiatry. She studied Creative Writing at Bath Spa University and has previously been longlisted for the Mslexia Novel Competition and Bath Novel Award. She lives in Bristol with her partner and three year old daughter.
