THERE ARE GHOSTS HERE
A spooky, contemporary speculative YA thriller that calls to mind the buried secrets of We Were Liars but contains a magic that is truly its own. A thrilling fantasy and an incisive consideration of friendships that are overpowering in their ability to blur the lines around self.
Dorset House is something of a halfway home for girls in trouble. What kind of trouble isn't really spoken about, and teenaged
Willa arrives to the waterfront home confused about where exactly she is and why she's been sent. And there are only two other
wards - bossy Caroline, who seems determined to frighten Willa, and the more submissive but no less mysterious Ivy who knows
more about the rambling old house than she's willing to let on.
Carolivy, as Willa comes to think of them, are intent on bullying Willa at first, but as she settles in, they start to let her get a little
closer until suddenly, it starts to feel like they know Willa's thoughts before she's even aware of them. Like they know her better
than she knows herself. As she starts to spy on them to try to crack the spell of what's happening in this old seaside manor, Willa
discovers that Carolivy are praying to the sea just outside their doors and appear to be on the brink of making a sacrifice.
Adrienne Tooley is the author of The Third Daughter; Sweet & Bitter Magic; as well as the Indie Next List selection Sofi and the
