THE WRONG SIDE OF RIGHT
A captivating journey along the presidential campaign trail, a story about politics and scandal, romance and betrayal, and—above all else—a story about family and what it means to truly belong.
When Kate Quinn’s mother died a year ago in a tragic car accident, Kate assumed that the secret of her father’s identity died along with her. She never expected that she’d learn anything at all about him—and she especially never expected that she’d learn anything from a mob of screaming reporters. But after a New York Times reporter discovers that the sixteen-year-old Kate is the illegitimate daughter of Senator Mark Cooper, presumptive Republican nominee for President, the press descends—and with it, the Cooper campaign.
When Kate agrees to join the Coopers on the campaign trail as part of a desperate attempt at damage control, she’s plunged headlong into the cut-throat world of politics, hoping to both forge a connection with the family she never knew and find some answers about the mother she’s so recently lost. From branding sessions and focus groups to smile-and-waves and donor dinners, Kate quickly learns the campaign ropes, making in-roads with the elusive Senator, his stoic wife Meg—who he’d been married to at the time of his affair with Kate’s mother—and their eight-year old twins, shy Gabe and feisty Gracie. She even manages to covertly carry on an unexpected flirtation with the son of the President—the Senator’s opponent in the upcoming election.
But when Senator Cooper’s stance on illegal immigration and his all too familiar campaign slogan—“The America We Know!”—hits way too close to home, Kate takes a risk that threatens to derail much more than just the Senator’s chances of reaching the White House. Faced with losing the only real family she has left, Kate must decide between pretending and speaking out, her past and her present, belonging… and walking away.
Jenn is a true star in the making. She’s bright, witty, lovely, and very enthusiastic—quite the publicity dream package. After graduating from NYU with a drama degree, Jenn moved to Los Angeles, joined a monthly reading series, and quickly realized that she was having more fun writing plays, screenplays, and superhero webisodes for the group than actually acting in them. Today, she writes fiction from a bungalow in sleepy Gulfport, Florida, alongside her husband Rob, an English television editor, and her mischievous hound Molly.
