THE WORST BREAKFAST
Something on the table reminds a young girl of the worst breakfast there ever was. But what will it take to make her sister remember? And can anything be done to save the day, so the two of them don't have to suffer the worst breakfast all over again? After recalling some of the ickiest food imaginable, the girls gladly settle into a delicious breakfast, featuring orange juice with no bits!
A girl helps her sister remember the worst breakfast ever. Miéville's prose, which sonsists entirely of rhyming dialogue ("It shoukc be creamy, made of oats, not gunk scraped off the hulls of boats.") and a proliferating list of real and imagined unpalatable foods, emphasizes that this is a book to be read aloud - and is sure to be accompanied by a cacophony of ews and grosses! from delighted children.
This is a wonderful and truly creative collaboratin between two artists at the top of their game.
China Miéville is an international best seller and author of nine books (two of whick - Un Lun Dun and Railsea - are YA novels). He's been translated into 26 languages and has won the Hugo, the Arthur C. Clarke Award, the World Fantasy Award, and the British Science Fiction Award. Needless to say, he has an enormous following and platform.
Zak Smith has a very distinctive artistic style, focusing on portraits of block-y, elongated figures and vibrant colors, that has landed him in some of the prestigious galleries and museums of the world. His page-by-page illustrations of Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow were featured in the Whitney Biennial and are now in the permanent collection of the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and a book published by Tin House. Zak is the author of three books.
