The Weight of a Human Life.

"We are not silent, we are your bad conscience, the White Rose won't leave you alone", was written on a leaflet of the small student resistance group in Munich, whose inner circle included Alexander Schmorell and Hans Scholl, his younger sister Sophie, Christoph Probst, Willi Graf and the university professor Kurt Huber. Posthumously, the student, who fearlessly raised her voice with her friends against the Nazi regime of injustice and the war of annihilation, actually became a conscience of the Germans. Today she is one of the most famous personalities in German history.

Just a few days after the war began, 18-year-old Sophie had written to her friend Fritz Hartnagel, an officer-to.be: "I can't understand why people's lives are now constantly in danger. I will never understand it and I find it terrible. Don't say it's for the fatherland." And even when she stood in front of Robert Freisler on February 22^nd, 1943, the 21-year-old said what she thought in the courtroom: "What we wrote and said, that's what you all think, but you don't have the courage to say it." The same day Sophie Scholl was executed by guillotine.
