THE UNQUIET

Mikaela Everett

A gorgeous novel about a 16-year old girl who is forced to live- and kill- in a parallel universe.
Lirael grew up in a cottage hidden in the woods along with 32 other children. From the age of six, the children are trained to be Sleepers - completely self-reliant, independent of any human comfort and trained to kill and replace the mirror versions of themselves in the coming war with the parallel world. But life after training is more difficult than promised. Although it is very much against the rules, Lirael is drawn to another Sleeper, Gray. When their orders come, the war for Earth erupts around them, and it is time for the Sleepers to turn on the families they were never supposed to love. Lirael must now choose between the home she's stolen and the home she was created to save. But she and Gray soon discover the truth about sleepers: They won't survive the war.

A complex, dark and beautifully crafted debut, THE UNQUIET is reminiscent of Never Let Me Go and the TV series "Fringe."
