THE THIRD REICH AND THE WORLD

Maurice Vaïsse Charles Bloch

The definitive book on Nazi foreign policy in a new, expanded edition.
What were the ideas behind Hitler's foreign policy and how did he apply them? Who were his main agents in diplomacy and what specific roles did they play?

Charles Bloch answers these critical questions and many others as he rolls out the rich and dramatic diplomatic history – intermingled with the general history – of the Third Reich from 1933 to 1945. Written clearly and vividly, first published by the Imprimerie Nationale in 1986, this study has not been superseded and remains essential reading for anyone interested in the history of the period. Out of print for several years, this new edition features a preface by Maurice Vaïsse, leading expert in the history of international relations.

«Charles Bloch's book is one of the best ever written about this troubled period and it will quickly become an essential reference» wrote Hervé Couteau-Bégarie when it first came out.

Charles Bloch, professor of contemporary history at the University of Tel Aviv, died in 1987.

Maurice Vaïsse is a foreign policy specialist and the author of numerous books on foreign policy, defense and international relations. Since 2008, he has chaired the Scientific Council for Historical Research at the French Ministry of Defense.
