THE STORM'S BETRAYAL (Bourshkanya 2)
Russian-inspired epic of magical revolution & romance
The great Stormhawk --Bourshkanya's paranoid, fascist leader-- is seemingly unkillable, but for the rebellion to succeed, he must die. Exposed and captured, Gerrit, Celka and Filip are in more danger than ever.
Celka must regain control of her powers and convince the State she can be trusted. Hiding her ties to the resistance, she finds herself forming real connections with those who should be her enemies -- the officers of the empire.
Filip swore his life to protect Gerrit and the regime. But with Gerrit's actions twisting him into a stranger, he is conflicted. The flirtatious, easygoing mask Filip always wears starts to slip, and Filip must figure out who he truly is, and what he believes in.
Back by his father's side, Gerrit must play the dutiful son, locking his feelings behind walls of magic - and risking his sanity. He once craved that power, and now he's sickened by it. For the resistance to succeed, he must act like the loyal, power-hungry son of Bourshkanya's dictator. But keeping up the pretense is exhausting, and if anyone realizes his true loyalties, both the resistance and everyone he cares about will be in danger.
Corry L. Lee has a PhD in physics from Harvard University and works as a data scientist at a major tech company. She attended the Odyssey Writing Workshop, and her short story "Shutdown" won the Writers of the Future contest in 2011 (Vol 28).
