THE STARTUP WAY

Eric Ries

Making Entrepreneurship a Fundamental Discipline of Every Enterprise

THE STARTUP WAY is a highly specific blueprint, a detailed look at proven techniques to rekindle an organization’s entrepreneurial spirit. Written in his trademark voice-driven, accessible style, the book will offer methods to incubate a new culture, and unleash creativity at every level of the organization.
Over the past three years Eric Ries has worked extensively with a handful of clients to apply the methodology he introduced in THE LEAN STARTUP on a truly global scale, from long-established companies ranging from GE to Toyota, hypergrowth companies like One King's Lane and Dropbox, and startups who are hoping one day to reach GE’s scale. THE STARTUP WAY draws extensively on these real-world examples.

All of these organizations are struggling to adjust to a new, more modern style of management, one that is appropriate for the context of the 21st century. CEOs and managers from the biggest corporate giants to the most grass-roots of startups often have a similar set of questions:

How do we structure teams to support cross-functional collaboration?
How do I get my leaders and managers to think like entrepreneurs?
How do I get new products, services, and internal initiatives to get real more quickly?
How do I hold people accountable for working in an entrepreneurial way – without putting my core business at risk?
How can I build a high-performance culture that can both serve existing customers and unlock new sources of growth?

Continuing a theme from The Lean Startup, Eric will explore what it means to embrace long-term thinking in pursuit of sustainable growth. Of all of the topics he tackles with companies, this one is the most emotionally charged for managers and founders. Over and over again, he sees people who desperately want to sustain a long-term vision for their company, and to leave a legacy of meaningful change behind. And yet they are continually frustrated by the short-term demands of our current business systems. His new framework provides concrete guidance for how to move beyond this dilemma to a sustainable future.

Eric Ries is an entrepreneur and author of the New York Times bestseller THE LEAN STARTUP.
