THE STARS OF WHISTLING RIDGE

Cindy Baldwin

In this emotional follow-up to Indie Next pick Where the Watermelons Grow and Beginners Welcome, an almost-thirteen-year-old with an almost-complete sentence for a name embraces her destiny to search for a forever home.
Ivy Mae Bloom is in huge trouble. She used her Mama's entire collection of wishes to wish for a forever home. But she and her sisters have spent their whole lives on the road so Mama, a fallen star, can grant wishes for other people and Ivy is tired of traveling. Her name is almost a full sentence, but she doesn't feel complete. She just wants permanent friends and a place to call her own: a forever home.

When Ivy's Aunt Agatha, another fallen star, calls the family to Whistling Ridge, North Carolina, Ivy knows her wish has come true. She quickly makes friends and falls in love with the small townnow she just needs to convince her parents to stay.

But something is draining the magic from Whistling Ridge, and the only clue seems to come from a local legend about a woman named Lydia Lovelace. Ivy gets involved in the town's Lovelace Festival to show her appreciation for her temporary home, but as the magical vortex swirls around her, Ivy begins to recognize herself in Lydia's grim story. Will she be able to fix the town's strange magic and find her forever home, or is it too late to save Whistling Ridge?
