THE SILENT WIFE

A.S.A. Harrison

THE SILENT WIFE is a chilling psychological thriller portraying the disintegration of a relationship down to the deadliest point when murdering your husband suddenly makes perfect sense.
Jodi Brett and Todd Gilbert are at a bad place in their relationship. Much is at stake, including the affluent life they lead in their waterfront condo in Chicago, as she, the future killer, and he, the future victim, rush haplessly toward the main event, for the most part oblivious to the destiny they are jointly creating.

Chapter by chapter, the narrative evolves from their alternating perspectives. HE is a committed cheater. SHE lives and breathes denial. HE exists in dual worlds. SHE likes to settle scores. HE decides to play for keeps. SHE has nothing left to lose. The alternating voices pitch the reader back and forth between protagonists in conflict who are fighting for self-preservation, each of them making deeply consequential mistakes, behaving in ever more foolhardy ways, losing at the games they are playing, and persevering in self-forgiveness and self-justification.

THE SILENT WIFE is a beautifully wrought, emotionally charged psychological thriller about a marriage in the throes of dissolution. It is also a disturbing commentary on the plight of married love and monogamy in a society where the individual is sovereign and self-fulfillment is a byword, where each of us is a whole world unto ourselves, and marriage is the crucible wherein two such whole worlds must co-exist. A.S.A. Harrison is the author of two novels and four non-fiction books, including a collection of essays on striptease (Revelations, Nightwood Editions, co-authored by Margaret Dragu) and a humorous treatise on cat astrology (Zodicat Speaks, Viking Penguin US). She was married to a visual artist and lived in Toronto, Canada. She was at work on her next psychological thriller when she passed away in April 2013.
