THE SILENCE OF STORMS

Chioma Okereke

THE SILENCE OF STORMS is set in New Orleans in the weeks before Hurricane Katrina wrecked the city in 2005.
It’s the story of two women, Lena and Indigo, who were the best and closest of friends at school and then meet in New Orleans after years without contact. Life hasn’t been easy for Indigo and she moves in with Lena and her family. Friendship is rarely a simple and straightforward relationship and, as theirs is rekindled, so too are the old tensions and resentments. As Indigo starts to undermine and sabotage Lena’s life and family relationships, we readers know that a storm is coming…

Chioma was born in Nigeria and moved to England when she was seven. She was educated here and in the US, and now works for Twentieth Century Fox in London. She’s in her late 30s. Her first novel, BITTER LEAF, was published by Virago in 2010 and was shortlisted for the Best First Book award in the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize; her short story, ‘Trompette’, was runner up in the Costa Short Story Award 2013. So she’s at a very early stage of her career but has already been noticed.
