THE RELIGION OF MY MOTHER

Karim Akouche

An engineer in Montreal, Mirak learns one day his mother passed away. Compelled to come back in his native country, Algeria, for her burial, he doesn't recognize his country anymore: his father turned mad, his brother is a Jihadist and his past love a prostitute.

Moreover, places and faces have become strangers to him. Ghosts of a past that no longer exists, where chaos and madness reign.

Sometimes a picaresque novel, sometimes an inner monologue, Karim Akouche depicts a dark world, threatened by his own confluences; a fragmented nation crippled by its contradictions.
