THE PARIS CORRESPONDENT

Alan Cowell

This is a story of journalism, love, and liquor in a turbulent era of wars and buyouts, a modern social thriller set in Henry Miller's Paris. Clancy is the kind of old school, performative narrator who is revealed more through his observation of others than of himself.
When seasoned reporter Ed Clancy joins the English-language newspaper The Paris Star along with his ne'er-do-well buddy, Joe Shelby, he's assigned to run the international Non-Stop News outpost. The motley crew in the office consists of alcoholic ex-pats, curmudgeonly luddites, miserly bosses, arguably insane danger junkies, and achingly beautiful women. And almost all of them are ambitious reporters who've been forced to take their chase of the byline online. Needless to say, the paper isn't thriving, and for Ed and Joe things are about to get worse Alan Cowell was the London bureau chief of the New York Times. Previously, he served as a correspondent for Reuters and the New York Tmes in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. He has been based in twelve capitals, has reported the news from around ninety countries and territories, and is now based in Paris. Cowell is married and has three children. Previous books include Killing the Wizards, A Walking Guide, and The Terminal Spy.
