Ian Fleming's James Bond character has entertained film audiences for fifty-five years – and interest in the world of 007 has increased exponentially during the era in which actor Daniel Craig has portrayed the suave British secret agent. Of course, the filmmakers have come a long way from the $1 million that was spent on producing the very first James Bond movie - Dr. No - in 1962. According to a number of sources, the last released 007 title – Spectre – cost $250 million to produce (and grossed $881 million worldwide in 2015-2016).

The James Bond Movie Encyclopedia would be the fourth edition of author Steven Jay Rubin's seminal work on the James Bond film series. It would cover the entire series, through Spectre – and depending on its publication date – would also include the latest film in the series, which is scheduled for a November 2019 release. It would be packed with behind the scenes information based on interviews with the cast and filmmakers, fascinating facts, trivia, bloopers, classic quotes, character bios, cast and filmmaker bios, and the type of exhaustive research that has been a hallmark of Rubin's work in film history. And the book would include hundreds of rare and unusual still photographs from the participants – both in front of and behind the cameras - themselves.

Rubin was actually the first author to explore the behind-the-scenes history of the James Bond film series. In 1977, he traveled from his home in Southern California to England, where he interviewed nearly everyone involved in the early history of 007, compiling his first 007 tome – The James Bond Films: A Behind the Scenes History, which was published by Arlington House in 1981. Crown Publishers brought out the second edition in 1983. Rubin was then approached by Contemporary Books to write the first edition of The Complete James Bond Movie Encyclopedia, which was published in 1990, and updated in 1995. McGraw Hill took over the book series in 2003, publishing the last edition, which covered everything through actor Pierce Brosnan's last outing as Bond – Die Another Day.

It's time for a new contemporary edition of the encyclopedia, and what better author to compile it than Steven Jay Rubin (who recently received reverted rights to the book from McGraw Hill).
