THE INTERN'S HANDBOOK

Shane Kuhn

John Lago is an intern at one of the biggest law firms in New York. He clocks 80 hours a week getting coffee, answering phones, and doing all of the sh*t work no one else wants to do…and he doesn’t make a dime. John’s the best intern the firm has ever had, but he’s not paying his dues so he can claw his way to the top of the corporate food chain. John was hired to assassinate one of the firm’s high profile, heavily guarded partners. His internship is the perfect cover; enabling him to gather intel and secure the access he needs to execute a clean, untraceable kill.
The Intern’s Handbook is John Lago’s unofficial survival guide for new recruits at Human Resources, Inc. – John’s real employer and a front for one of the most elite assassin training and “placement” programs in the world. But what starts as a handbook becomes a darkly comic memoir somewhere along the way. Within, John chronicles his final assignment at one of New York’s most infamous law firms - a twisted, violent thrill ride pitting him against the strongest adversary he has ever faced – a federal agent assigned to investigate the same law firm partner John has been hired to kill. In juxtaposition to the Handbook’s blood soaked bravado are FBI wiretap transcripts in which John unwittingly exposes the deep scars from his horrific childhood, his longing to connect with his true family, and his hope that love will help him find redemption from the body count that haunts his past and threatens his future. Part “Gross Pointe Blank,” part Beat The Reaper, part American Psycho, The Intern’s Handbook introduces us to the mind of a killer that we can’t help but eventually care and want redemption for. Debut author Shane Kuhn has crafted an amazing, cinematic (and psychopathic) thriller. Shane is a writer, director, and producer with 15 years of experience (as he delicately puts it) whoring himself out to the entertainment business and advertising. In feature film, he has writing and directing credits with Universal, Paramount, Sony, and Lionsgate. He is currently co-writing a feature for Paramount and producing an independent documentary. A shameless product pusher in the ad world, he has worked as a copywriter, creative director, and broadcast spot director for brands such as Levi’s, Snapple, Cisco Systems, and DirecTV. For the past three years, he has been wearing golden handcuffs as creative director and broadcast producer for a Bay Area media company. So that you know he is not completely soulless, he is one of the original co-founders of the Slamdance Film Festival and currently serves as an Executive Board member of Slamdance, Inc. Kuhn holds a post-graduate degree in Film Production from The University of Westminster, Central London and an MFA in Screenwriting from the American Film Institute.
