THE INEVITABLE COLLISION OF BIRDIE & BASH

Candace Ganger

The Inevitable Collision of Birdie & Bash is about two teens who fall in love not knowing of their connection to a horrific accident.
The story of Birdie & Bash is an emotional rollercoaster told from alternating perspectives of the main characters. Birdie is a bright mind who sees lessons of chemical reactions and collision theory in the everyday world and is preoccupied with landing a college scholarship; Sebastian (aka Bash) is just taking it one day at a time, worried about his mother’s illness and saving his best friend Kyle from his wild partying. One fateful night, Birdie and Bash meet at a party and connect instantaneously, but they separate before even learning each other’s names. Another fateful event happens after that same party: Birdie witnesses her young brother being struck by an anonymous hit-and-run car driver. What we know (but Birdie doesn’t) is that Bash also witnessed the terrible moment, riding as a passenger in the speeding car driven by his friend Kyle, who had been heavily drinking. When news of the horrible accident goes public and Bash randomly meets Birdie again, he has to grapple with his conscience: does he keep his pledge of silence to Kyle to protect his best friend? How can he keep quiet when Birdie’s little brother is fighting for his life and Bash himself knows the fear of death as his own mother battles cancer? If the police find out about his involvement, he may not have a choice. THE INEVITABLE COLLISION OF BIRDIES & BASH weaves together the stories and perspectives of the two characters in a surprising narrative arc that explores challenging themes of friendship and loyalty, love and family and ultimately delivers hope. Candace Ganger is a contributing writer for HelloGiggles and obsessive marathoner. Aside from having past lives as a singer, nanotechnology website editor, and world’s worst vacuum sales rep, she’s also ghostwritten hundreds of projects for companies, best-selling fiction and award-winning nonfiction authors alike. Candace?aka?Candyland?has a severe Milky Way latter addiction + eats way too many donuts/doughnuts but all things in excess, amiright? FYI: She’s TOTALLY awkward in person (#sorrynotsorry). She lives in Ohio with her family. This story is loosely based on a similar event that happened to her family.

I really liked the characters, I thought they were well thought-out, and I found their actions and thoughts to be realistic, even though the whole story is, like, extremely tragic and dramatic. Also, everyone is funny and witty as hell in this book! There is also a very nice family element, their dynamic was on point!

Smart, raw, often biting in its reflections of the haves and have-nots, this debut will appeal to fans of John Green’s An Abundance of Katherines. Birdie and Bash are part of a cast of characters so vividly drawn, you’ll find yourself not only wanting to (re)study chemistry but learning what you get in life isn’t always what you deserve - sometimes it’s more. Candace Ganger’s breathtaking debut is a must-have for every shelf.

Readers will cheer for Birdie as she struggles to get out of her own way, and readers’ hearts will break for Bash as he struggles to cope with his mom’s terminal cancer. Unknowingly connected by both love and tragedy, these two unlikely opposites will collide like molecules with sufficient kinetic energy and, together, create something greater than the sum of their individual parts.

The Inevitable Collision of Birdie & Bash is part love story, part page-turner, and part intricate character study. Ganger writes her characters with great care, and the beautifully structured story is filled with giant truths and tiny, perfect details. Falling for this book was quick, thrilling and, yes, inevitable.

The book will make you laugh, definitely make you cry, and it might even make you question some of your own choices. It’s fun, smart, witty, and emotionally traumatizing and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

A stunning and brilliantly crafted debut that peels back layers to the raw and the real. My theory: Candace Ganger’s talent is something you definitely want to collide with, immediately. Birdie + Bash = 2 characters impossible not to fall in love with.

Smart, intense, heartbreaking… this debut novel is a must read.

One of 2017’s Biggest Debuts.

Loss, grief, love, friendship, coming of age and more populate this novel. It's a really wonderful debut. Read an excerpt of The Inevitable Collision of Birdie and Bash. This book has 'movie' written all over it. Fans of John Green will enjoy this one.

Told in alternating points of view, The The Inevitable Collision of Birdie and Bash promises to put readers and characters alike through an emotional wringer. It invites them to question destiny, fate, and scientific theory. It is sad but not dark. It is sweet but not saccharine. It is gorgeous and intense and absolutely unforgettable.

Smart, emotionally rich, and beautifully written, The Inevitable Collision of Birdie & Bash is an unforgettable, heartfelt novel—realistic YA at its best.

A smart, complex story with textured characters that lift off the page. Candace Ganger has a rare talent for weaving together two compulsively readable voices.

Ganger writes with beautiful imagery which added to this beautiful reading experience. This book is very touching, and with that said, it is a similar writing style to John Green. I enjoyed all of the characters, and how they worked together to create a unique plot line. This book will make you ‘feel all the feels’ as us fangirls say.

Ganger alternates between Bash’s and Birdie’s perspectives, and readers will be anxious for Birdie to realize Bash’s true identity, and for Bash to come forward to someone - anyone - with the truth. Bash’s friendship with the troubled Kyle, who does nothing but treat him poorly, is puzzling, fascinating, and yet painfully true to life. Hand to fans of Jennifer Niven’s All the Bright Places.

Ganger has a unique and fun writing style. Even though this story has some heart-wrenching content, I really enjoyed the story and the writing. The characters were really thought out and written well. I loved Birdie’s math jokes. They provided an extra bit of fun to the story. I really enjoyed this story.
