THE HIDDEN NATIONS OF ANIMALS

Oliver Uberti

This is a unique, illustrated project that builds on the successful formula of bestsellers like The Hidden Life of Trees and An Immense World.
Embarking on an odyssey through some of our planet's most captivating animal communities, Ryan travels to far-flung destinations like the world's largest beaver dama structure so vast that it's visible from spaceand into hostile territory like the Korean DMZ, which in contrast to its perception as an uninhabited no man's land is teeming with life.
His expedition is undertaken in collaboration with a wide array of world-renowned wildlife researchers, geographers, anthropologists, and historians. He is also joined by award-winning author and cartographer Oliver Uberti, who has mapped each featured animal society, adding never-before-seen layers to landscapes we thought we knew. The result is a transformative new take on the animal kingdom and humanity's place in it, and a blueprint for a better and more inclusive world.

Ryan Huling is an adventurer, animal advocate, and sustainable food systems specialist currently serving as senior communications manager for the Good Food Institute APAC. His columns been published by Nikkei, South China Morning Post, WIRED, and USA Today, among others. This is his first book.

Oliver Uberti is a former senior design editor for National Geographic and the coauthor of three critically acclaimed books of maps and graphics: Atlas of the Invisible; Where the Animals Go; and London: The Information Capital, each of which won the top British Cartographic Society Award for cartographic excellence.
