THE GOLDEN HAT

A project most near and dear to Oscar-winner Kate Winslet's heart, THE GOLDEN HAT features stunning self-portraits from A-list celebrities and cultural luminaries, such as Steven Spielberg, Sting, Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep, Oprah and Angelina Jolie to name a few, all wearing a "magical" hat to support autism outreach and research.

Doctors told Margret Dagmar that her son Keli, who lives with a severe form of non-verbal autism, would never be able to communicate. Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet paired up with the Dagmars’ at the outset of their journey to produce a documentary film. The name “The Golden Hat” comes from the title of a poem written by Keli, the autistic child once deemed by experts as unable to communicate. The poem describes a magic hat that enables him to speak freely. The photographs in the book translate that communicative power, accompained by Keli's moving poems featured throughout. The project requires friends to pass an actual hat from one to another, only after taking a self-portrait wearing the hat. The book includes four-color photographs throughout.
