Samia was born in a camp near the border of two countries at war. Her parents took refuge there a long, long ime ago. So long ago, in fact, that the poor little girl has never even seen a flower. She doesn't even know hat a flower looks like. Fortunately, her elderly neighbour, Mayi, knows how to make hope blossom with his words, his dreams and all the remnants of happiness that still sparkle in his eyes.

Andrée-Anne Gratton writes for young people ages 3 to 13, and has penned more than 30 novels and board ooks. She also works as a literary editor, copywriter and proofreader. Her work has been shortlisted for a Mr. Christie's Book Award and she has been a finalist for a Governor General's Award. Oussama Mezher was born in Beirut and immigrated to Canada in 2005. She has illustrated 5 children's picture books.
