THE BOY WHO GREW INTO A TREE

Ross Watkins Gary Crew

A heartbreaking fable about nature and our relationship with it, and about the inevitable cycle of life.
And then, as if on cue, the baby shaped its mouth into a perfect circle,
drew breath into its cheeks and, curling its tiny tongue upon its bottom lip,
breathed the long soft sound of wind in the trees.
This is a tale of storms and bushfires and wild bees. It is a tale of an old couple and an unexpected gift from the bush. A gift they must one day return.

Gary Crew is an award-winning author of many books for young adults and children. He has won four Children's Book Council of Australia awards, The Royal Zoological Society of NSW Whitley Award and The Wilderness Society Environment Award for Children's Literature.

Ross Watkins' short fiction and non-fiction has appeared in six national and international anthologies and at the 2006 Byron Bay Writers' Festival and 2002 Sydney Writers' Festival. His story The Arc was shortlisted for the 2011 QLD Premier's Literary Awards – Emerging Author.
