THE BONE CHILD

Laurel Remington

The sweeping gothic historical debut with shades of magical realism, loosely inspired by the Odyssey.
Scotland, 1843.

Mary Crowley's privileged life has not protected her from misfortune. Following the amputation of her right leg, she is confined to a chair, and desperate to walk again. When she discovers her seemingly devoted husband never sent a letter to a man who could make her a prosthetic leg, she undertakes a risky journey across the sea to seek the help of a man whom she hopes will carve her a new leg from whalebone.
But dark forces are at work on the island - forces she cannot explain or control. When a local child goes missing and another mysteriously appears, one who bears an uncanny resemblance to a bone doll, Mary is swept up in a mystery much bigger than herself. Forced to choose between safety and freedom, she must find the strength to fight and protect those she loves, even if it means letting them go ...
