TEASE is a contemporary YA in the vein of THIRTEEN REASONS WHY and makes for a provocative and unforgettable look at high school bullies.

TEASE tells a story we’ve heard in countless headlines: popular girls torment their new classmate until that new girl kills herself. We think we know that story--popular and unpopular, in and out, bully and victim.

It’s easy to capture in a trending hashtag, easy to feel secure that no one we know or love could ever be so horrible. But as we read Sara’s story, told in a narrative that alternates between her current summer facing criminal charges along with her best friend and three other classmates for Emma’s suicide, and the events of her junior year when everything began with Emma, the truth proves far more complicated.

TEASE is the story of how casually cruel we can be to one another and of how interconnected we all are, how one person’s pain can change everyone around them, and how very thin the line between bully and victim really is.

Author Amanda Maciel is a senior editor at Scholastic, editing and acquiring middle grade fiction. She cowrote the autobiography Sasha Cohen: Fire on Ice in 2004 and prior to joining Scholastic, held various editorial positions at HarperCollins from 2000 to 2007. She went to Mount Holyoke College, ran two NYC marathons, and now lives in Brooklyn with her husband and young son.
