Maddy can't find her voice. With her grief over Nan's death, her struggle for Mum's attention, and the mystery of the strange woman Dad keeps meeting, it's easier to keep everything locked up inside. As Maddy withdraws further in to herself, her form tutor suggests that she joins a small nurture group led by the school counsellor. Reluctant at first, Maddy slowly comes to realise that this may be the one place where she can be herself.

Also attending the group, is ‘bad boy’ Kieran. Total opposites, but with far more in common than they realise, Maddy and Kieran reach out to each other and for the first time in years, Maddy feels she has a friend she can trust.

Anne-Marie Conway is a teacher who specializes in drama. She runs her own children’s theatre company, which inspired her series Starmakers. Her novel Butterfly Summer won the Oxford Book Award 2012. She lives in London with her family.
