Born in Guelph and based in New York, Jesse Ruddock first left Canada on a hockey scholarship to Harvard. Her writing and photographs have appeared in the New Yorker.com, BOMB, Music & Literature and Vice. Shot-Blue is her first novel.

Beautifully drawn and lyrical, Shot-Blue moves fluidly, a beat past the norm of something so literary.

...like most literary novels, there is more to enjoy here—or at least more to investigate—than character and plot. Much like Winter’s Bone, Shot-Blue is written in a style that somehow combines an easy-spoken blue collar minimalism with wordplay and lyricism. The oblique, hidden emotions of the characters are balanced in part by the ingenuity and playfulness of Ruddock’s language.
