SHOOK ONE

Charlamagne Tha God

Anxiety Playing Tricks on Me

Charlamagne Tha God, co-host of radio show Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club, cemented his brand of brutally honest wisdom in the instant New York Times bestselling Black Privilege; now, he builds out his blueprint for success, showing how to break free from your fears and anxiety to reach that elusive next level.
Fear is holding you back. It's time to turn the tables and channel your fears to actually fuel your success. Being shook is more than a rap lyric for Charlamagne, it's his mission to overcome. While it may seem like he is ahead of the game and should have nothing to worry about, he is still plagued by anxieties - fear of being weak; fear of being a bad dad; fear of being a worse husband; and ultimately fear of failure. Shook One is his journey to beat back those fears and to empower you to no longer be held back from your potential.

SHOOK ONE details how anxiety has been a driving force in Charlamagne's life since childhood. For many years, he stressed over what he thought were personal shortcomings: fear of being unpopular in school, potential rejection by women, of being ugly and worst of all, falling into the life of stagnation or crime that caught up so many of his friends and family in his hometown of Moncks Corner, South Carolina.

Even after achieving national prominence as a radio personality, Charlamagne still found himself paralyzed by thoughts that he isn't going to be able to take his career to the "next level." But now he is working through these problems with help from mentors, guests on his show, and therapy. He knows therapy and showing weakness is in itself anxiety producing in the black community, but this is one of the reasons he wants to own his truth - to clear a path for others to not feel shame dealing openly with their mental health. "I think we all are more shook than we let on and I want people to know it's okay to be scared," he says. "I want people to know how being so-called 'weak' can save your life. This book is all about dealing with fear and accepting that it is your best resource if you want to realize your dreams."

Charlamagne tha God is the co-host of the nationally syndicated hip-hop iHeart Radio program The Breakfast Club, featured television personality at MTV and MTV2, and New York Times bestselling author of Black Privilege. He is also a social media influencer; an executive producer with his own production company, CThaGod World LLC; and co-host of the popular podcast "Brilliant Idiots." Born and raised in a small town in South Carolina, Charlamagne quickly rose to become one of today's most unique and compelling media personalities. His controversial opinions and provocative celebrity interviews help drive the daily national conversation about issues related to hip-hop, race, society, and politics. Shook One is his second book.
