SHADOWBAHN

Steve Erickson

An hypnotic mix of rock ‘n' roll, familial obsessions and an alternative American history,
Shadowbahn takes place in a world in which, one afternoon in the not too distant future, the Twin
Towers suddenly appear in the middle of the Dakota Badlands.
From the author often dubbed “the American Murakami” comes a hypnotic mix of rock ‘n' roll, familial obsessions and an alternative American history. SHADOWBAHN takes place in a world in which, one afternoon in the not too distant future, the Twin Towers suddenly appear in the middle of the Dakota Badlands. Tens of thousands converge on what one newsmagazine calls the “American Stonehenge,” as strange musical visions manifest themselves in a kind of sonic rorschach. Living alone inside the South Tower is Jesse Garon Presley (who happens to be Elvis's twin brother) who watches the North Tower for signs of life -- when the tower's “whole point is its emptiness” -- and is haunted by the voice in his head of another America, where his despised, stillborn twin survived in his place and became the most famous singer of all time.

STEVE ERICKSON is the acclaimed author of nine novels and two nonfiction works, including THESE DREAMS OF YOU, ZEROVILLE, TOURS OF THE BLACK CLOCK, RUBICON BEACH, and THE SEA CAME IN AT MIDNIGHT. "Ericksons gem of a novel is equally challenging and rewarding, spinning out thread after thread of story before skillyfully tying them together in a satisfying climax."

Best Book of 20??: Shadowbahn - Jaw-dropping into Shadowbahn's radical audacity Steve Erickson weaves a playlist for the dying American century, and his usual lucid-dreaming prose. I've read every novel he's ever written and I'll still never know how he does it; Erickson's a tour-de-forcer's tour-de-forcer.

Steve Erickson's 10th (10th!) novel is: compassionate, weird, unpredictable, jaunty. It's sad, and it's droll and sometimes it's gorgeous. [...] In 2017, it reads like an answer to and sanctuary from the American Century to come."

ZEROVILLE by James Franco, starring James Franco, Megan Fox, Seth Rogen
