SEE JANE WIN

Caitlin Moscatello

The Inspiring Story of the Women Changing American Politics

This is an inside look at the female candidates who drove the 2018 blue wave by fighting back, winning elections, and forever changing what it means to be a woman running for office.
After November 8, 2016, first came the sadness; then came the rage, activism, and protests; and then, remarkably, for thousands of women, the next step was to run for office. More women campaigned in state and national races in 2018 than at any other time in US history - and far from being just one "Year of the Woman," this was only the beginning.

Journalist Caitlin Moscatello has written about female candidates running for office in the wake of the 2016 election for New York magazine's The Cut, Elle, and Glamour; and in SEE JANE WIN, she further documents this pivotal time in women's history. Moscatello tells the story of a movement and the important shift in the way women are represented in America by closely following a handful of candidates throughout the entire process of their winning campaigns:

- Abigail Spanberger, the former CIA agent from Virginia who unseated Tea Party Representative Dave Brat in one of the night's biggest upsets
- Catalina Cruz, a Colombian immigrant who became the first Dreamer elected to the New York State Assembly (in Donald Trump's old stomping grounds, no less)
- Anna Eskamani, an Iranian-American woman who ran for state office in Florida, with a campaign motivated by her mother's healthcare struggles and the Parkland shootings
- London Lamar, an African-American woman who became the youngest woman elected to the Tennessee State House.

Told over the course of a year and a half, from the candidates' decision to run through Election Day 2018, SEE JANE WIN takes readers inside the campaigns that made up the surge of women running - and getting elected in record-breaking numbers. Candidates of all stripes across the nation demanded their seats at the table, changing the face of politics as we know it and creating momentum for future elections. SEE JANE WIN is the definitive look at the women behind the wave.

Caitlin Moscatello is a journalist and writer, most frequently for New York magazine's The Cut. In recent years she has been nominated for a National Magazine Award; received a Front Page Award and a Planned Parenthood Media Excellence Award; and has been a United Nations press fellow reporting on women's health issues. She's also the founder of Repro, a biweekly newsletter about reproductive rights legislation at the state and federal levels. In addition to New York magazine, Moscatello's writing has appeared in outlets including Elle, Medium, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, Glamour, Refinery29, Condé Nast Traveler, GQ, Sports Illustrated, Fast Company, and O, The Oprah Magazine.
