SECOND LIVES, SECOND CHANCES

Donald Laub

A Surgeon's Stories of Transformation by Donald R. Laub, M.D.

The engrossing memoir of a plastic and reconstructive surgeon involved in groundbreaking and life-changing procedures.

Throughout his decades of work in plastic and reconstructive surgery, Dr. Donald Laub changed the lives of thousands of people and fostered the development of the surgical profession. Armed with an interest in difficult cases and a strongly felt duty to do good, Laub took big risks in order to make big changes in the field of plastic surgery.

He pioneered international humanitarian medical missions, giving new lives to thousands of children in developing countries through his ceaseless efforts to surgically correct cleft palates. As one of the original surgeons to perform gender affirmation surgery, Laub continually improved on his methods and became a tireless advocate for the rights of transgender people. Laub also trained over fifty plastic and reconstructive surgeons, ensuring that these doctors could continue his mission to better the lives of others.

More than just a memoir, Second Lives, Second Chances is a testament to how the determination of one person can bring others together to make a lasting difference in the world.

Donald Laub was chief of plastic surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine from 1968 to 1980 before entering private practice.
