SEARCHING FOR SKY

Jillian Cantor

Sky and River have always lived on Island, the only world they've ever known. Until the day River spots a boat. Across Ocean, in a place called California, Sky is separated from River and forced to live with a grandmother she's just met. Here the rules for survival are different. People rely on strange things like cars and cell phones. They keep secrets from one another. And without River, nothing makes sense. Sky yearns for her old life where she was strong and capable, not lost and confused. She must find River so they can return to Island, but the truth behind how they ended up there in the first place will come as the biggest shock of all. Jillian Cantor is the author of the YA novels The September Sisters (HarperTeen, 2009) and The Life of Glass (HarperTeen, 2010). She is also the author of the adult novels The Transformation of Things (Avon, 2010) and Margot (Riverhead, September 2013). Jillian holds a BA in English from Penn State University. She received her MFA from the University of Arizona and was a recipient of the national Jacob K. Javits fellowship.

Comments

“In the tradition of Emma Donoghue's Room (2010), the firstperson, presenttense narration allows readers to see their familiar modern lives through Sky's fresh eyes...it's still satisfying to see Sky's growth as the truth about her past is gradually revealed...An appealing and sensitive reversesurvival story.”

“A really good read with a very different storyline which I really liked. I would recommend this book to anyone aged 13+.”

“In this "reverse dystopian" novel, Cantor skillfully invites the reader to see our world and all its shortcomings and idiosyncrasies through Sky's questioning gaze. Readers will be captivated as Sky struggles to navigate her new universe, one that we know intimately but may never look at the same way again.”

“Fascinating, existential comingofage story...Sky's story leaves a quietly haunting impression.”
