Although 401(k) retirement accounts are portable between employers and give employees freedom to manage theirsavings in an unprecedented manner, many people have failed to take advantage of their options. The median household headed by a retirement-age worker with a 401(k) has, on average, less than one-quarterofthe account needed to support a comfortable retirement. Furthermore, almost one-third of those eligible to join 401(k) plans rio not. By failing to set a savings rate of 15%, as recommended by most financial professionals, or by not diversifying their portfolios, today‘s workers are doing themselves and their futures a grand injustice. Benartzi, a leader in the field of behavioral finance, argues that understanding psychological tactors such as inertia, loss aversion, and myopia may explain and also solve the way people make decisions about their 401(k) plans. He introduces the PlanSuccess System to those wishing to solve the 401(k) crisis without government Intervention.

Shlomo Benartzi is Professor and Co-Chair of the Behavioral Decision-Making Group at the UCLA Anderson School of Management and a leading researcher of behavioral finance. He is also Chief Behavioral Economist tor the Allianz Global Investors Center for Behavioral Finance and co founder of the Behavioral Finance Forum, a collective of 40 prominent academics and 40 major financial institutions around the globe. Benartzi isa co-inventor of the acclaimed Save More Tomorrow TM program, a saving enhancement plan that is used by more than halt of the large employers in the US that almost quadrupled retirement contributions in the tirst 3 years of its initial implementation.
