RETHINK THE INTERNET

Trisha Prabhu

How to make the Digital World a Lot Less Sucky

The first book from superstar Trisha Prabhu, a 21-year-old innovator, social entrepreneur, global advocate, and inventor - and current student at Harvard - who took her own experiences as a cyberbullied preteen and channeled them into a mission to help preteens and teens end internet hate.
The Goal: Ending Online Hate. The Book: ReThink the Internet The Author: Trisha Prabhu, 21-year-old innovator, social entrepreneur, and inventor who, after being the victim of cyber bullying as a preteen, became a global advocate for a kinder digital world. In a series of funny and illustrative stories, Trisha Prabhu asks readers to stop and consider the potential consequences before they post, tweet, comment, or text. The book is a first-of-its- kind, "by youth, for youth" guide to help readers navigate the digital world with confidence. While the pressure increases on social media companies and policymakers to regulate our dig- ital world, it falls to students and the adults around them to make real-time, crucial decisions that affect the mental and physical health of anyone with access to an Internet that can feel full of bullying and hate. Today's young people, while Internet savvy, are not digitally literate. Trisha's book personal- izes the issues we read about and struggle to solve; it offers readers the tools and skills they need to tackle these challenges in their everyday lives. While written for a middle grade audi- ence, the book includes a Companion Guide for educators and parents, so that they can sup- port young readers and initiate vital conversations about their use of technology/the Internet. Over her eight-year work as an anti-hate activist, Trisha has met countless young people glob- ally, and it was their courageous stories, their belief in the possibility of a better Internet, and their urging to make that vision concrete that led to the creation of this book. Trisha Prabhu is the 21-year-old founder and CEO of of ReThinkTM, a patented technology to detect and stop online hate that is currently used by 5.5 million students and 1500 schools across the world. A senior at Harvard University, where she was named a 2022 U.S. Rhodes Scholar, Trisha appeared in 2016 as a contestant on ABC's Shark Tank to pitch her idea for Re- Think. She is the winner of the inaugural 2020 MIT Solve Elevate Prize and was the youngest honoree named to Forbes's 30 Under 30 Social Impact list (2021). Trisha was named a Google Science Fair Global Finalist and was selected to present ReThink at The White House. Her TED and TEDx talks on cyberbullying have garnered millions of views worldwide.

While aimed at middle grade students, this book could easily appeal to a much wider audience. The author reminds the reader that there are real people on the other end of all forms of communication.

What I love about Trisha's approach is the way she uses storytelling to get her points across. No one wants to be lectured about their online behavior but we can all benefit from stories about how others have overcome online adversity. I highly recommend this book to teens, parents and educators.

One of the best ways to impart lessons and values to young people is through their peers. ReThink the Internet is a relatable, anecdote-based book that conveys important topics like digital citizenship and media literacy through both fiction and the author's personal history. We at the Family Online Safety Institute have had the privilege of knowing Trisha Prabhu from early in her journey as the founder of the ReThink app. She is a forward thinker, innovator, and leader. There is no one we'd recommend more highly to lead a young person through an introduction of how to be an upstander and "do the Internet right."

ReThink the Internet is a must read for all youth... as well their parents!
