RAISING CAN-DO KIDS

Jen Prosek Richard Rende

Giving Children the Tools to Thrieve in a Fast-Changing World

RAISING CAN-DO KIDS is the first book that offers parents scientifically valid ways to raise kids to be people who make their way in the world without a roadmap, inspire and motivate themselves and apply their passion and creativity to create success for themselves and others—in other words, entrepreneurs.
It is entrepreneurs who thrive in today’s increasingly uncertain world. The latest science reveals that some of the traits we admire most in entrepreneurs are not inborn. Rather, they are transmitted from an early age and reinforced through the efforts of parents. Furthermore, the character traits that researchers have associated with entrepreneurs are upheld in child development literature as being beneficial for kids. Each chapter of RAISING CAN-DO KIDS is devoted to an entrepreneurial quality—Optimism, Resilience, Industriousness, Opportunism, Creativity, Camaraderie, Compassion, and Street Smarts—and reveals how dominant parenting trends are curtailing these qualities in their children.

Richard Rende, PhD, is a developmental psychologist and creator of the popular blog, Red Hot Parenting featured on Parents.com. He serves on the Transdisciplinary Research Group at Butler Hospital and is Associate Research Professor at Brown University Medical School.

Jen Prosek is the founder and CEO of Prosek Partners, one of the top 35 independent public relations firms in the US. She received her MBA from Columbia University.
