PROPER BADGER WOULD NEVER!

Lauren Glattly Rob, Jr. Sayegh

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie meets No, David! in this hilarious story of misbehavior and misadventure with a very proper badger.
Proper Badger has been invited to a party. He is quite pleased. He will wear his best coat and bow tie and be a very proper guest. He most certainly won't ruin the party because of his badger antics because, as Proper Badger assures us, he will be on his best behavior.* ( *No, he won't.)

Dig his claws into the cake? Have a little accident on the rug in the hallway? He would NEVER.

From debut author Lauren Glattly and New York Times bestselling illustrator of Seth Meyers's I'm Not Scared, You're Scared!, Rob Sayegh Jr., comes an uproarious tale about a badger who just can't suppress his badger-like tendencies.

Lauren Glattly ghostwrites for astronomers in New York City but has always wanted to write for children because they are more observant. Her humor writing for adults can be found in the Funny Times, in a desk drawer, and sometimes in the fireplace. Lauren lives in New York with her husband and a handful of hardy houseplants that can withstand her suspect watering techniques.

Rob Sayegh Jr. is a former toy designer turned author-illustrator of children's books. He is the author/illustrator of Love Tails and the illustrator of Arlo Draws an Octopus, Slow Down, Tumbleweed, and Seth Meyers's New York Times bestseller I'm Not Scared, You're Scared! When he is not doodling or writing, he enjoys collecting vintage toys, being an official snack taste-tester, and falling in love with every dog he meets. He currently lives in San Francisco, California, with his family. To see more of Rob's work, please visit RobSayArt.com.

Working with crisp, collage-like shapes and textures, Sayegh (I'm Not Scared, You're Scared) depicts the delightfully snouted, eager-eyed Badger wreaking havoc via largely single-plane compositions, lending an air of theatricality that's a fine match for debut author Glatty's comically arch prose. Juicy language and syntax make the story a readaloud pleasure while conveying plenty of mischievous sympathy for the protagonist's total commitment to his self-image.

While the unseen narrator tells of Badger being the perfect partygoer in his dapper jacket and bowtie, the collage-esque illustrations tell a completely different story, one of havoc and mayhem... The bold color choices and cartoonish figures strike a nice balance of menace and whimsy, enhancing a Klassen-like ending where it's implied Badger might have retaliated just a smidge when he was asked to leave the party. A story perfect for lap time, this gives little readers the opportunity to find - and then surely giggle at - discrepancies between the story they hear and the action happening in the illustrations.

This riotous tale, told in a tongue-in-cheek voice, will have kids chuckling and eagerly discussing whether they'd want to attend a party with Proper Badger. The colorful illustrations are energetic; Badger's innocent expression is adorable... A giggle inducer and a fun read at an upcoming birthday party.
