POPPY MAYBERRY, THE MONDAY

Jennie K. Brown

What if your teacher could read your mind just because she was born on a Thursday? Or the kid next to you in class could turn back the clock just because he was a Wednesday? In the quirky town of Nova, the day of your birth determines the power you will wield. For Poppy Mayberry, an almost-eleven-year-old Monday, her telekinesis still has some kinks. If only she were a Friday—they can disappear!
Ten-year-old Poppy Rose Mayberry was born on a Monday, and could hardly wait to use the Monday power of telekinesis. After an accidental (she swears) incident with nearly-perfect Ellie Preston, Poppy was positive she’d have to wait no longer. But one year has passed, and while the rest of Nova Elementary’s students have perfected their skills, Poppy has fallen behind. Now, Poppy’s summer plans of lounging around the pool with BFF and fellow Monday, Veronica, are ruined when she is forced to spend the entire break at Power Academy honing her skills. To make matters worse, she has to share a dorm room with none other than Ellie, who happens to be a Thursday. And Thursdays READ MINDS. Ugh. At least Poppy’s able to bring Pickle along. Ellie won’t be able to read her mind! But when Pickle and a number of other items mysteriously vanish from campus, Poppy teams up with a disappearing Friday, a light-manipulating Wednesday, and Ellie—the person she despises more than anyone else in the world—to figure out who the culprit is and how to get Pickle back. The whole detective thing would be so much easier if they could all just keep their powers in check—and maybe they had a Tuesday who could teleport! Thus begins a whimsical fantasy adventure series from high school teacher Jennie K. Brown that explores themes of friendship, teamwork, self-esteem, and personal growth. Book 2 to follow in April 2017 and Book 3 in September 2017.
