PITCH CRAFT

Laura Goode

The Writer's Guide to Getting Agented, Published, and Paid

It's a handbook for writers to learn the business side of the publishing process and how to market themselves and their work effectively. It's the perfect book for those considering writing careers or who want to learn more about writing before, during, or after pursuing a higher education writing program.
When author Laura Goode graduated with an MFA from Columbia, she realized she'd never been taught how to market herself or make a living from her writing. After years of navigating the publishing world on her own, she created a class to teach everything she'd learned to other writers. That online class, which focuses on pitching and publishing in popular media, has helped thousands of writers get published and landed Laura a position at Stanford teaching the same material that makes up this book.

Pitch Craft teaches writers at all levels how to effectively market themselves and their work, regardless of genre, to editors, agents, and other gatekeepers. It focuses on the nuts and bolts of building a platform, networking, pitching short- and long-form work, writing book proposals, promoting their work, negotiating and getting paid, and staying grounded throughout the entire process.

Laura Goode writes about intersectional feminism, female friendship, motherhood, gender, and race in culture, TV, film, and literature. She currently serves as Associate Director for Student Programs for the Public Humanities Initiative at Stanford University, where she teaches in the English department and Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program.
