PIEDS NUS DANS LA GRAVELLE
Barefoot on Gravel
How do you go on living after such a heartwrenching tragedy?
DESCRIPTION
Roseline stares at the horizon without really seeing it. The heatwave is sweeping across the Dominican Republic, lifting the volume of the music and laughter all around, but her heart sinks as she realizes she can't keep running away. She lowers her eyes, first to the ocean, then to the pregnancy test she holds in her hands like a tiny injured creature. It's positive. Something inside her she thought was dead sparks to life. And it hurts. The memories come flooding back of her tragic experience two years ago when her husband and baby lost their lives in a car crash.
EXCERPT
I don't know why people are incapable of saying someone is dead. They always have to say someone's passed and a whole bunch of other crap so people and their bleeding hearts can latch on to the thought it isn't really over, as if there weren't a body getting cold in the fridge. You're not being considerate if you can't look someone in the eye and tell them the person they love more than anyone else in the world is dead; all you're doing is killing them from the inside out.
AUTHOR
Maude Michaud started her popular blog, La parfaite maman cinglante (Perfect Scathing Mum: parfaitemamancinglante.com) in March 2016, when she had finally had more than enough of feeling guilty about everything since the very infancy of her motherhood.
